'Dawn Adams and Dale Steffey, the parents of Wade Steffey, announced today
that the Wade Steffey Memorial Fund is awarding four $1,000.00 scholarships,
two each at Bloomington High School South and Bloomington High School North.
The scholarships are being made available to graduating seniors who have
been accepted to attend Purdue University at West Lafayette, beginning in
the fall semester of 2007.
The scholarships will be based on a two page maximum length essay on
"friendship and what it means to me". The deadline to apply for BHSN seniors
is Mon., Apr. 30 by 2:30 p.m., and for BHSS seniors, Mon., May 14 by 2:30
p.m. Students should see their respective guidance counselors for further
details. The award winners will be announced at each school's Senior Honors
Day programs, May 4 at BHSN, and May 21 at BHSS.
The panel of judges who will determine the scholarship recipients for 2007
are Joy Harter, executive director of Bell Trace Retirement Community, Lisa
Burnham, co-owner of Burnham Woods, Steve Bailey, retired BHSN English
teacher, and Dawn Adams and Dale Steffey.
"Wade had so many friends, and friendship is vitally important to young
people" said Dale Steffey. "Many, many people have helped us, and this is
the beginning of our giving back to others. As we move forward to establish
a foundation in Wade's name, we hope to make these scholarships an annual
event."
