We had a good day today. We appeared before the committee working on
Molly's Bill, named after Molly Dattilo, who disappeared from Westlake
Apts. on I465 westside of Indy almost 3 yrs. ago. This legislation
identifies "high-risk" missing persons, and gives police and coroners clear
guidelines to follow, esp. in communicating with families. It is model
legislation that has been passed in other states, and comes from U.S
Dept of Justice guidelines. I was the only one who testified today who
has experienced total cooperation and communication with the police. It
is unimaginable to us that families would have to go through this AND
have a bad experience with the police. We are urging everyone residing in
Indiana to email their state reps. and state senators in support of
this legislation IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM. We got the original language back
in the bill today- it had been watered down by the IN. State police. The
vote out of committee was 11 to 0, so it has strong bipartisan
support. And it should remain having that support. Please pass this
along to everyone who has offered to help us. It may be "Molly's Bill",
but it will help all future missing persons, and maybe some who are
currently unaccounted for.
